SPACE DAY

The Cheshire school SPACE day consists of a very interactive presentation on items in the solar system and their relative sizes and characteristics plus a discussion on whether life might exist outside the earth and if so, where? followed by a discussion on supernovae (from which every part of their bodies was created) black holes, comets asteroids etc.If we have time we cover the development of rockets from ancient china , through modern missiles to space craft. The object is to follow the children's interests rather than tie ourselve to a fixed curriculum. Once we have finished the lectures ( around 2.5 hours) we start to build the Alka Seltzer rockets which the children then launch towards pictures of the various objects which they learned about in the presentation. If they hit an object and CAN IDENTIFY IT -- there's a small reward.

We can also visit the school ,say two weeks in advance and talk aboiut how to build pop bottle rockets ,which the children can then build at home and bring to school to be launched in the playing field see picture left of pop bottle rocket
